AFROHA’s projects focus on education, dignity, and community-based support for children and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Each initiative is developed in close collaboration with local partners and designed to address real barriers to learning and well-being.
Our work prioritizes practical solutions that enable vulnerable children—especially girls—to remain in school, participate fully in learning, and build stronger futures within their communities.
Girl Orphan Scholarship Program
The Girl Orphan Scholarship Program was established to address the barriers that prevent orphaned and vulnerable girls from accessing and continuing secondary education in rural communities.
Working in partnership with women-led community organizations, school administrations, and local leadership, the program focuses on identifying girls whose education is at risk due to the loss of parental support and limited access to basic school resources.
Community-led assessments revealed that many girls attending secondary school lacked essential learning materials and basic school requirements. These gaps—such as uniforms, stationery, meals, and personal care items—often determine whether a student can participate fully in classroom learning or remain enrolled.
By supporting access to these essential needs, the program helps remove practical barriers to education and enables girls to attend school with dignity, confidence, and consistency.
The Girl Orphan Scholarship Program reflects AFROHA’s commitment to education as a pathway to empowerment and to solutions that are grounded in local knowledge, partnership, and respect for lived experience.
Ongoing and Emerging Work
AFROHA continues to work alongside community partners. Together we identify and respond to the evolving needs of children and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Our ongoing work focuses on education access, community awareness, and practical support that strengthens participation in school and community life.
Rather than applying one-size-fits-all solutions, AFROHA’s approach emphasizes listening, local leadership, and responsiveness. Projects are shaped by community input and adapted to reflect the realities faced by children, caregivers, and schools on the ground.
As needs change, AFROHA remains committed to developing programs that are sustainable, respectful, and centered on long-term impact—particularly for girls and other vulnerable children whose education is most at risk.
